India’s Mountain Shield! ₹1,950 Crore High-Tech Radar to Secure Borders Against China & Pak

In a major boost to national security, the Ministry of Defence has signed a landmark ₹1,950 crore ($1.95 billion) contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to deploy state-of-the-art ‘Mountain Radars’ along India’s sensitive borders. Designed by DRDO’s Bengaluru-based laboratory (LRDE), these high-tech surveillance systems are set to make the country’s mountainous frontiers virtually impenetrable for adversaries like China and Pakistan.
Under this strategic agreement, considered the largest defense deal of the 2025-26 fiscal year, the Indian Air Force will be equipped with two sophisticated radar units capable of monitoring difficult terrains where conventional systems often fail. These radars are specifically engineered to detect enemy fighter jets, stealth drones, and even low-flying cruise missiles with pinpoint accuracy, regardless of extreme weather conditions.
Defence experts highlight that this indigenous ‘Mountain Radar’ system will provide a significant tactical advantage in high-altitude conflict zones. Operating under the ‘Buy (Indian-IDDM)’ category, the project underscores India’s growing self-reliance in defense manufacturing. Once operational, these radars will act as a 24/7 digital sentinel, ensuring that no hostile movement goes unnoticed across the Himalayan borders.
