A budding love story and a four-month-old marriage ended in a gruesome murder in the Dhantala area of Nadia district. Priyanka Biswas (24), a professional nurse, was allegedly hacked to death by her husband, Debesh Biswas, following a domestic dispute over dowry and gold jewelry. The accused, who was also Priyanka’s colleague at a private nursing home, has been taken into police custody.

The Fatal Altercation: According to Priyanka’s family, Debesh had been pressuring her for more money and her wedding jewelry since their marriage. On the night of the incident, a heated argument broke out. Debesh reportedly shouted, “If you don’t give it, your father will!” before brutally attacking her. Priyanka was found dead the next morning in a pool of blood inside their residence.

Motive Behind the Crime: Investigations reveal that the couple had married for love just four months ago after meeting at their workplace. However, Debesh’s greed soon overshadowed their relationship. Local sources suggest that Debesh was in debt and wanted to liquidate Priyanka’s assets to clear his dues. The police have registered a case of dowry death and murder against Debesh.

Current Status: The Dhantala Police have sent the body for post-mortem at Ranaghat Sub-divisional Hospital. Neighbors expressed shock, describing the couple as seemingly happy from the outside. The investigation is ongoing to determine if more people were involved in the conspiracy.
