“If I had Died Like Nirbhaya, Everyone Would Have Believed Me”: Unnao Victim Cries Out After Sengar’s Bail Plea Rejected

he Supreme Court has delivered a major setback to expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar by rejecting his bail application in the custodial death case of the Unnao victim’s father. While expressing relief over the judicial intervention, the victim shared a heartbreaking account of her eight-year-long struggle, drawing a grim comparison with the Nirbhaya case.
Supreme Court’s Directives: A bench led by Justice Surya Kant directed the Delhi High Court to conclude the hearing within three months. Reacting to the verdict, the victim said, “I was in court when the judgement was delivered. I am satisfied that the hearing is ordered to be completed quickly. But my father will never return. His killers—Atul Singh Sengar and Jaideep Singh Sengar—are out of jail on medical grounds, and involved police officers are also free.”
A Plea for Absolute Justice: In a moving interview with ANI, the victim questioned why her survival has made her battle for justice so much harder. “If I had died like Nirbhaya, everyone would have believed that I was raped. Because I am alive, I have to prove it every single day for eight years,” she lamented. She demanded the death penalty for Kuldeep Singh Sengar, stating that only capital punishment could bring peace to her father’s soul. Earlier, Sengar had moved the apex court challenging the Delhi High Court’s order, but the bench refused to grant him any leniency.
