I-PAC Case: Supreme Court Adjourns Hearing as Kapil Sibal Falls Ill; Next Session on Feb 18

The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing on the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) petition against West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee regarding her alleged interference during the raid on I-PAC’s office. The bench of Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice Sandeep Mehta postponed the matter after being informed that senior counsel Kapil Sibal, representing the state, was unwell.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta agreed to the request for an adjournment, leading the court to fix February 18 as the next date for the hearing.

The Case Background: The controversy erupted on January 8, when ED officials were conducting a search at the residence of I-PAC head Pratik Jain and the firm’s office. In an unprecedented move, CM Mamata Banerjee arrived at the scene along with State DGP Rajeev Kumar and Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma. The ED subsequently moved the Supreme Court, accusing the Chief Minister and top officials of obstructing a central agency’s investigation.
