In a shocking case of religious exploitation, the Vasai Police in Maharashtra have arrested a self-styled spiritual guru for allegedly raping a female devotee. The 35-year-old accused, identified as Rishikesh Vaidya, had convinced the victim that he was an ‘incarnation of Lord Shiva’ and she was his ‘Parvati,’ using these claims to carry out repeated sexual assaults.

The ‘Avatar’ Deception: The victim, who was reportedly going through a difficult phase in her personal life, sought spiritual guidance from Rishikesh. Exploiting her vulnerability, the accused claimed that their meeting was a divine reunion. He told the woman that in her previous birth, she was ‘Goddess Parvati’ and that physical intimacy with him was a mandatory ritual to achieve ‘Moksha’ (spiritual liberation) and resolve her worldly problems.

Blackmail and Intimidation: According to the police complaint, the accused allegedly recorded the acts on his mobile phone and later used the footage to blackmail the victim. Whenever she tried to distance herself, he threatened to leak the videos and warned that refusing his “divine commands” would bring a curse upon her family. Unable to bear the trauma any longer, the victim finally approached the local police station.

Police Action and Charges: The Vasai Police acted swiftly and apprehended the 35-year-old accused. He has been booked under Section 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), and relevant sections of the IT Act. Authorities have also seized his electronic devices for forensic examination to check for more such victims.

The local community has expressed outrage over the incident, calling for strict punishment for those who misuse religious sentiments to commit heinous crimes. Police have advised citizens to remain vigilant and report any such fraudulent individuals claiming supernatural or divine powers.
