“I am a Proud Thakur!” Kanpur HDFC Employee Astha Singh Issues Clarification Over Viral Altercation

The HDFC Bank employee from Kanpur, Astha Singh, whose video featuring aggressive language and caste-based remarks went viral, has finally shared her side of the story. In a detailed video statement, Astha explained that the 43-second clip being circulated on social media is being presented out of context to malign her image.

The Triggering Incident: Astha clarified that the incident took place on January 6th and did not involve any bank customer. According to her, the dispute was with the husband of a female colleague who had resigned that day. The man allegedly entered the bank during closing hours and harassed Astha after a minor verbal spat with his sister-in-law earlier that morning. “He asked for my caste and threatened to crush my ego. That’s when I reacted and spoke about being a Thakur,” Astha stated.

Concerns Over Safety: While Astha admitted that her choice of words was inappropriate for a professional setting, she refused to retract her statement regarding her pride in her caste. Shockingly, she revealed that ever since the video went viral, she has been receiving rape threats online. Expressing fear for her life, she questioned who would be responsible if any harm came to her. She has confirmed taking legal action against those misrepresenting the incident. Meanwhile, HDFC Bank has placed her on administrative leave pending an internal inquiry.
