In a chilling incident that has sent shockwaves through the Purbasthali region, a 60-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her son on Monday after she refused to give him money for alcohol. The incident occurred in Madhupur village, under Nimdah Panchayat. The deceased has been identified as Nurjahan Bibi, while her husband, Kismat Sheikh, sustained life-threatening injuries while trying to save his wife.

The Gruesome Incident: According to local reports, the accused, Hasibul Sheikh, was a chronic alcoholic who frequently harassed his parents for money. On Monday evening, a heated argument broke out when Nurjahan Bibi flatly refused to fund his addiction. In a fit of rage, Hasibul grabbed a kitchen cleaver (bonti) and repeatedly attacked his mother. When his father, Kismat Sheikh, intervened to protect her, Hasibul turned the weapon on him as well, leaving him severely wounded.

Police Intervention: Alerted by the screams, neighbors rushed to the spot and found the couple lying in a pool of blood. They were immediately taken to Purbasthali Rural Hospital, where doctors declared Nurjahan Bibi dead on arrival. Due to his critical condition, Kismat Sheikh was shifted to Kalna Sub-divisional Hospital. The Purbasthali police arrived promptly at the scene and have taken the accused son, Hasibul Sheikh, into custody. An investigation is currently underway to ascertain the full details of the crime.
