High-Stakes Showdown in Lok Sabha! Opposition Files No-Confidence Motion to Remove Speaker Om Birla

The political standoff in the Indian Parliament escalated to an unprecedented level as the opposition parties filed a formal notice seeking the removal of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The motion, moved primarily by the Congress party, bears the signatures of key allies including the RJD and the Left Front. This rare parliamentary move follows days of persistent deadlock and heated exchanges between the treasury and opposition benches.

The opposition has accused Speaker Om Birla of being partisan and allegedly stifling the voices of non-NDA members in the house. The rift widened significantly after a series of suspensions of opposition MPs, which the leaders described as “undemocratic.” According to parliamentary procedures, a Speaker can be removed only by a resolution passed by a majority of all the then-members of the House. A 14-day notice period is mandatory before the motion can be taken up for discussion. While the opposition stands firm on its demand for a neutral custodian of the House, the ruling BJP has slammed the move as a “cheap political stunt” aimed at disrupting development. This constitutional battle is set to dominate the headlines as the Lok Sabha enters a period of extreme uncertainty.
