High Court Clears Path for Dibyendu Adhikari! BJP’s Egra Candidate Finally Gets ‘No Due Certificate’

The legal road to nomination is now clear for Dibyendu Adhikari, the BJP candidate for the Egra assembly constituency. After a prolonged delay by the authorities, Adhikari received his ‘No Due Certificate’ following a decisive hearing at the Calcutta High Court on Monday. Justice Krishna Rao disposed of the case after the state counsel provided a photocopy of the essential document.
Dibyendu, a former representative, required the certificate to prove he had no outstanding dues to the government—a mandatory requirement for filing nomination papers. Fearing a potential rejection of his candidacy, his lawyer, Billwadal Bhattacharya, had moved the court on March 10 after failing to obtain the certificate through regular channels. During today’s proceedings, the state informed the court that the certificate was issued on March 19 and provided a copy to the petitioner to avoid further delay.
While Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari is contesting from Nandigram and Bhawanipur, his brother’s candidacy in Egra was under a cloud of technical uncertainty. With the certificate now in hand, the Adhikari camp has breathed a sigh of relief. This legal win ensures that the electoral battle in Egra remains competitive, with Dibyendu now free to officially enter the fray against his opponents.
