From Suvendu’s Aide to Rival! TMC’s Nandigram Candidate Pavitra Kar Declares Assets

The battle for Nandigram has intensified as TMC candidate Pavitra Kar filed his nomination against BJP heavyweight Suvendu Adhikari. Once a close associate of Adhikari, the 43-year-old “Son of the Soil” from Boyal has now declared his financial assets in a mandatory affidavit. A fish farmer by profession and a Madhyamik (Class 10) pass-out, Kar’s wealth report shows a mix of agricultural land and significant jewelry holdings.
According to the affidavit, Kar’s annual income for 2024-25 stood at nearly ₹5 lakh. While he owns movable assets worth over ₹46 lakh, his wife, Shiuli Kar, holds movable assets exceeding ₹70 lakh—largely driven by 400 grams of gold valued at over ₹56 lakh. Additionally, Pavitra Kar owns agricultural land worth approximately ₹72 lakh. Interestingly, the TMC candidate stated that he does not legally own the house he currently resides in. With four dependents and several bank accounts, Kar is now gearing up for the ultimate political showdown in Bengal’s most prestigious constituency.
