Unseasonal rains have left potato farmers in deep distress with acres of crops destroyed. However, agricultural scientists have now come forward with a strategic recovery plan to help farmers bounce back from financial loss. Dushyant Kumar Raghav, head of the Malda Krishi Vigyan Kendra, suggests that instead of mourning the loss, farmers should immediately switch to profitable alternative crops.

According to experts, planting climbing vegetables like cucumber, bitter gourd, and ribbed gourd can yield high returns in a short period. For those with slightly elevated land, tomato cultivation is highly recommended. The current soil moisture is also ideal for sowing pulses, maize, or jute. Scientists have advised using Pendimethalin for weed control to ensure a healthy harvest. By following this scientific approach, farmers can effectively offset their losses and regain financial stability quickly.
