Fly Above the Traffic! Bengaluru Startup to Launch Electric Air Taxis in Delhi-NCR Soon

Commuters in Delhi-NCR will soon be able to bypass the gridlock of city roads and take to the skies. Bengaluru-based startup Sarala Aviation is set to launch electric air taxi services in the region, following the successful ground testing of its (half-scale) electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) demonstrator, the Silla SYL-X1.

Cutting-Edge Indian Engineering The SYL-X1 boasts a 7.5-meter wingspan and is hailed as the most advanced private eVTOL model developed in India to date. Remarkably, the prototype was built within just nine months at a fraction of the cost of global programs, showcasing the efficiency and prowess of Indian engineering teams in high-level aerospace technology.

Seating Capacity and Utility The core of the program features a six-seater electric flying taxi. Specifically designed for India’s most congested metros like Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Pune, the taxi aims to convert hours-long commutes into mere minutes. Beyond daily commuting, these air taxis are being positioned as critical assets for emergency medical services and rapid response units.

The Path Ahead Following its successful tests in late 2025, the project has moved into the critical verification phase. This involves rigorous validation of structural integrity, propulsion integration, and safety architecture. Sarala Aviation’s progress marks a significant milestone in India’s journey toward becoming a global hub for advanced air mobility, transitioning from a technology consumer to an innovation leader.
