The shadow of organized crime appears to be tightening its grip on Bollywood once again. Following the recent firing incident at filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence and an extortion threat to actor Ranveer Singh, a close relative and associate of superstar Salman Khan has reportedly received a threatening email. The sender, claiming to be an operative of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has demanded several crores of rupees, warning of “deadly consequences” if the demand is not met.+1

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has launched a massive manhunt to trace the origin of the email. This incident comes just a day after actor Ranveer Singh received a multi-crore extortion threat via a WhatsApp voice note on February 10. Investigators are currently analyzing metadata and tracking digital trails to determine if these threats are part of a coordinated campaign by the Bishnoi syndicate to intimidate high-profile film personalities.

The series of security scares began with five rounds being fired outside Rohit Shetty’s Juhu residence earlier this month. While security for Salman Khan is already at the “Y-plus” level, the focus has now shifted to the safety of his inner circle. Senior officials stated that they are taking every communication seriously and are investigating whether these are ‘copycat’ threats or a resurgence of organized extortion rackets reminiscent of the 1990s.
