End of the Road for Left-Congress Alliance? CPM Strategy Meeting Signals Independent Path for Elections

With the West Bengal Assembly elections approaching, the political equation of the Left Front is undergoing a major shift. In a crucial meeting of the CPM State Secretariat held on Wednesday, sources indicated that the party is no longer keen on continuing its alliance with the Congress.

The shift in stance comes after the Pradesh Congress signaled its intent to contest all 294 seats independently. While a section of CPM leaders believes that the party should have waited for an official announcement from Congress to avoid the blame of breaking the alliance, the majority now favors moving forward with ISF and other Left allies.

The meeting also saw questions being raised against Mohammad Salim regarding his recent discussions with Humayun Kabir and Naushad Siddiqui. The party aims to finalize seat-sharing with its core allies and ISF at the earliest, assuming Congress will not be part of the combine. A decisive Left Front meeting is scheduled for Thursday at 3 PM at Alimuddin Street, where major partners like CPI, RSP, and Forward Block will deliberate on the final electoral roadmap.
