‘Embrace Abroad, Divide at Home?’ Mamata Targets PM Modi’s Diplomacy at Red Road Eid Prayers

With the Assembly elections around the corner, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee turned the traditional Eid-ul-Fitr gathering at Red Road into a massive political platform this Saturday. Braving heavy rain and overcast skies, thousands gathered for prayers where the Chief Minister, accompanied by TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, launched a scathing attack on PM Narendra Modi and the Central Government’s ‘divisive politics.’

Mamata Banerjee specifically addressed the concerns regarding SIR (Supplementary Information Report) and the fear of losing citizenship. “Many names have been struck off from the SIR. We have fought for this from Kolkata to Delhi, and from the High Court to the Supreme Court,” she declared. Assuring the minority community, she added, “If no one stands by you, remember I will fight for every citizen as a member of your family.”

Taking a direct swipe at PM Modi, the CM highlighted the contrast between the Prime Minister’s diplomatic gestures on foreign soil and the alleged politics of polarization within the country. She thundered, “We will not let Modiji snatch away our rights. If there are obstacles in the path of light, we must snatch our blessings back.” Abhishek Banerjee also echoed these sentiments, calling for unity against communal forces. This aggressive stance is seen as a strategic move to consolidate the minority vote bank just before the high-stakes elections.
