Eid at Red Road: ‘Won’t Bow Down Even if Beheaded,’ Mamata and Abhishek Slams Centre Over SIR Issue

The iconic Red Road in Kolkata witnessed a massive gathering for Eid-ul-Fitr prayers on Saturday, attended by CM Mamata Banerjee and TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee. Amidst the festive spirit, the leaders launched a scathing attack on the Central Government regarding the SIR (Supplementary List) issue.

Addressing the gathering, CM Mamata Banerjee emphasized her commitment to justice, stating, “Names of many individuals have been struck off the SIR list. We have moved the Supreme Court for this. I am proud of India and stand for global peace.”

Abhishek Banerjee echoed this sentiment with a more aggressive stance, asserting that the state’s communal harmony remains unshakable. “In our Bengal, temple bells and mosque azans ring together. If there is Ram in Ramzan, there is Ali in Diwali,” he remarked. He further warned that no amount of pressure would make them succumb, stating, “We won’t bow down even if our heads are severed. The government is not the owner of this country; they are merely tenants.” He concluded by saying that currently, it is not just one community, but the entire nation of ‘Hindustan’ that is in peril.
