Drunken Spectator Murders Cricketer After Local Match; Umpire Also Brutally Attacked

In a chilling incident that has shocked the sports community, a local cricket match in Visakhapatnam turned into a murder scene following a dispute over an umpiring decision. A young cricketer named D. Ajith was brutally stabbed to death by a spectator identified as Kanta Kishore, alias ‘Boxer,’ after a row regarding a run-out during a 20-over match.
The incident occurred in the Pedagadili area last Sunday. While the match umpire, B. Chiranjeevi, had managed to settle the on-field argument between the teams, the accused, who was watching from the sidelines, harbored a grudge. Hours after the game ended, an intoxicated Kishore reportedly summoned Ajith and the umpire to a local junction under the pretext of a discussion.
Upon their arrival, the situation escalated rapidly. Kishore drew a knife and stabbed Ajith in the chest. When Umpire Chiranjeevi and some bystanders tried to intervene, they were also slashed and sustained serious injuries. Ajith was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The Visakhapatnam police have registered a murder case based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father and have launched a massive manhunt for the absconding accused.
