In a chilling incident that has sent shockwaves through the Madhupur village of East Burdwan, a drug-addict son allegedly murdered his 60-year-old mother, Nurhajan Bibi, after she refused to give him money for drugs. The accused, Hasibul Sheikh, also critically injured his elderly father, Kismat Sheikh, who is currently battling for his life at Kalna Sub-divisional Hospital.

The Grime Sequence of Events: According to local reports, the tragedy unfolded on Monday afternoon around 4:00 PM. Hasibul, who has been unemployed and addicted to drugs for years, approached his mother demanding cash. When she refused, a heated argument ensued. In a fit of rage, Hasibul grabbed a heavy vegetable cleaver (bonti) and began hacking his mother indiscriminately.

A Family Torn Apart: Majida Bibi, the younger daughter-in-law and an eyewitness, recounted the horror: “He started hitting her before anyone could react. When my father-in-law tried to intervene, Hasibul turned the blade on him, slashing his neck and abdomen.” Hearing her screams, neighbors rushed to the spot, only to find the elderly couple lying in a pool of blood. The accused tried to flee but fell into a nearby drainage ditch, where locals apprehended him and handed him over to the police.

Background and Legal Action: Family members revealed that Hasibul’s addiction had previously destroyed his personal life, leading his wife to leave him eight years ago. His brothers stated that he frequently harassed their parents for money.
