“Don’t Play with Fire, CM!” Protesting Employees Celebrate SC Verdict with Sweets and Warnings

The ‘Sangrami Joutho Mancha’ (Joint Platform of Struggle) has hailed the Supreme Court’s verdict on Dearness Allowance (DA) as a “Historic Victory.” Following the court’s direction to clear arrears, the protesters organized a celebration at Dharmatala, distributing sweets. In a press conference, the platform’s convener, Bhaskar Ghosh, remarked, “The government never valued our democratic struggle, but the apex court has now validated our legal right to the 5th Pay Commission arrears.”

Issuing a stern warning to the state government, Ghosh said, “If the first installment of the 25% arrears is not paid by March 6, we will launch a fresh and more intense movement. The Chief Minister should not play with fire.” He expressed gratitude towards Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and Senior Advocate Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya for their steadfast support. Ghosh emphasized that although they didn’t claim DA as a ‘Fundamental Right,’ it is undoubtedly a ‘Legal Entitlement.’ He concluded by saying that this payout would not only benefit employees but also boost the state’s overall economy by increasing market liquidity.
