Don’t panic over LPG supply! Government assures full support amid global fuel crisis

Amid growing concerns over LPG shortages driven by geopolitical tensions in West Asia and the instability at the Strait of Hormuz, the Indian government has stepped in to reassure citizens. The crisis has hit small businesses and restaurants hard, leading to price spikes and job losses in the gig economy.

To manage the situation, the government has implemented strategic measures:

  • Extended Booking Cycle: To prevent panic buying and hoarding, the gap between cylinder bookings has been increased from 21 to 25 days.
  • Priority Distribution: Households, hospitals, and educational institutions remain the government’s top priority for supply.
  • Price Support: The government is providing significant subsidies to keep domestic LPG prices stable despite global volatility.
  • Production Boost: Plans are underway to increase domestic LPG production by 25% and diversify import routes to ensure energy security.

Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has urged the public to remain calm, emphasizing that the government is closely monitoring the situation and is committed to ensuring affordable fuel for all.
