Delhi To Go Dark For 60 Minutes! BSES Urges Citizens To Join ‘Earth Hour’ Movement

In a significant push towards environmental sustainability, Delhi’s power major BSES has urged the residents of the national capital to observe ‘Earth Hour’ this coming Saturday. As part of this global initiative to combat climate change, millions of Delhiites are encouraged to switch off all non-essential lights and electrical appliances for exactly one hour to show their support for the planet.

The Earth Hour 2026 is scheduled to take place on March 28, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Both BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) and BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) have started extensive awareness campaigns to reach out to their vast consumer base. According to a BSES official, “Earth Hour is a symbolic yet powerful gesture. By turning off non-essential lights, we can collectively reduce the city’s peak power load and significantly lower the carbon footprint.”

Organized annually by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Earth Hour has seen iconic landmarks like the Rashtrapati Bhavan and India Gate turn off their lights in previous years. BSES is not only asking domestic consumers but also commercial establishments and RWAs to actively participate in this voluntary blackout.

Environmentalists believe that such initiatives are crucial at a time when global temperatures are rising at an alarming rate. By participating in this one-hour blackout, Delhi can send a strong message of unity and conscious energy consumption to the rest of the world. So, Delhi, are you ready to switch off for a brighter future?
