Dehradun Land Row: BJP MLA Meets CM Dhami Over Minority Institution Near IMA; National Security At Stake?

Politics in Uttarakhand has escalated over a disputed piece of land in Dhaulasa, Dehradun, allocated for a minority educational institution. Senior BJP MLA and spokesperson Vinod Chamoli met Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, urging the immediate cancellation of the allotment, citing grave national security concerns due to its proximity to the Indian Military Academy (IMA).

Security Concerns Raised by BJP: Chamoli alleged that the land was allocated during the Tiwari government in 2004, ignoring strong objections from the IMA. He claimed that the 2022 controversy regarding a ‘Muslim University’ in the state was rooted in this very plot. According to the BJP, attempts are now being made to alter the land use and settle members of a specific community there, which they term a threat to the state’s demographic balance. “We will not allow any anti-religious intentions to succeed in Devbhoomi,” Chamoli stated.

Congress Hits Back: Former CM Harish Rawat dismissed the BJP’s allegations as a political stunt. He questioned why the BJP remained silent from 2004 to 2026 despite being in power multiple times. Rawat argued that any current activities or plotting on the land must have been authorized by the present Dhami government itself. He accused the BJP of raking up old issues to polarize voters.

Government’s Stance: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has assured swift action on the matter. He emphasized that the safety of the IMA and the security of the nation are paramount. The government is expected to review the legalities of the 2004 allotment and may move to take the land back into government possession. As the debate over ‘Land Jihad’ resurfaces, the political climate in Uttarakhand remains highly charged.
