A Tuesday afternoon turned tragic in Howrah when two men lost their lives after a heavy iron rod fell from a high-rise building near the Howrah Municipal Corporation. The incident occurred during ongoing construction work at a local Trade Center.

Caught Unawares As the famous ‘Mangala Hat’ market was in full swing, a cap merchant and his employee had arrived at the building to collect goods. Unexpectedly, a massive iron rod being used for roof casting slipped and fell from the top floor. The impact was fatal, leaving both men critically injured. They were rushed to the Howrah District Hospital, but doctors declared them brought dead.

Police Investigation Underway The Howrah Police have cordoned off the area and are inspecting the rooftop, where construction materials were found scattered without proper safety nets. Authorities are investigating whether negligence by the contractor led to this preventable tragedy.
