In a chilling incident reported from Howrah on Tuesday, two pedestrians lost their lives when a heavy iron rod fell from an under-construction high-rise building. The tragedy took place under the jurisdiction of the Howrah Police Station, sparking massive outrage among local residents regarding safety lapses at construction sites.

According to witnesses, construction work was ongoing on the upper floors when a massive iron rod slipped and plummeted toward the busy street below. The two victims, who were passing by at the time, were struck directly and died instantly due to severe head injuries. Following the accident, angry locals staged a protest, alleging that the builder had failed to install mandatory safety nets. The police have cordoned off the area and sent the bodies for post-mortem. A hunt is on for the contractor and the promoter, who reportedly fled the scene shortly after the mishap.
