Cracking Down on Cyber Mafia: HM Amit Shah Inaugurates CBI’s New Cyber Crime Branch

In a major push to fortify India’s digital borders, Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a two-day national conference titled “Tackling Cyber-Enabled Frauds & Dismantling the Ecosystem” today at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Organized by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in collaboration with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), the event aims to create a unified front against organized cybercriminal networks.

Inauguration of New Cyber Branch and S4C Dashboard: Home Minister Shah inaugurated the CBI’s new dedicated Cyber Crime Branch, designed to investigate high-tech crimes affecting national governance and financial systems. He also launched the State Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (S4C) Dashboard, an advanced tool under I4C that will allow seamless information exchange between state and central law enforcement agencies.

Core Objectives of the Conference: The conference addresses the evolving challenges of India’s digital transformation under PM Narendra Modi. Key focus areas include:

  • The Financial Pillar: Tackling money laundering and the misuse of ‘Mule Accounts.’
  • The Telecom Pillar: Preventing the abuse of SIM cards and eSIM technologies.
  • The Human Pillar: Eliminating “Cyber Slavery” and human trafficking used to run global scam centers.

Multilateral Cooperation: The two-day summit brings together senior officials from the RBI, Department of Telecom, NABARD, major private banks, Fintech giants, and international security experts. The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Analytics in crime detection is a central theme, aiming to improve real-time monitoring of fraudulent funds and victim protection.
