CM’s Ad During Training? Poll Official Thrashed for Protesting; Election Commission Demands Report

The political atmosphere in West Bengal has turned volatile following a shocking assault on a polling official during an official training session. The official was allegedly beaten up by outsiders for objecting to the display of advertisements featuring the Chief Minister on the screens inside the training hall. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken a very serious view of the matter and has summoned an immediate report from the district administration.

The incident occurred on Friday, March 27, 2026, when polling staff were being briefed on election protocols. Witnesses claim that when the victim raised concerns about the neutrality of the process due to the screening of government ads, a group of unidentified men stormed the premises and physically assaulted him. Other poll workers have raised a pertinent question: “How did outsiders gain access to such a high-security zone meant for election training?”

The victim sustained multiple injuries and is currently undergoing treatment. Outraged by the incident, polling officials across the state have threatened to boycott duties if their safety is not guaranteed. The ECI has directed local authorities to examine CCTV footage and arrest the culprits immediately. This breach of security within a sensitive election zone has put the administration on the defensive, as it raises alarms about the “Free and Fair” nature of the upcoming polls. The commission has assured that no interference with the neutrality of the training process will be tolerated.
