Chasing Death in Seconds! Why Boarding a Moving Train is a Suicidal Gamble

The brief window between a train’s whistle and its departure from the platform has become a danger zone due to passengers’ reckless behavior. Boarding a moving train is not just a violation of rules but a direct challenge to death. A slight loss of balance or a slip into the gap between the platform and the tracks can lead to a fatal accident within seconds.
Recent records from September 2025 to February 2026 highlight a series of harrowing incidents across stations like Dum Dum, Jasidih, Bhagalpur, and Bidhannagar. From a mother and child being saved in Sahibganj to a 70-year-old man in Durgapur for whom emergency brakes had to be applied—the bravery of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has been the only saving grace. Despite these miraculous escapes, the trend of jumping onto moving coaches continues unabated.
Shivram Majhi, Chief Public Relations Officer of Eastern Railway, emphasized that while the RPF is always on alert, the ultimate responsibility lies with the passengers. “A few minutes of delay is nothing compared to the gift of life,” he remarked. The railway administration continues to urge commuters to prioritize safety over haste.
