High drama unfolded in Kharagpur’s Purigate area on Thursday morning as senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh faced a massive protest from local residents. The situation escalated rapidly in Ward 27, where an angry mob surrounded Ghosh’s convoy and allegedly attempted to vandalize his vehicle.

The primary grievance of the locals stems from the perceived absence of BJP leaders during times of crisis. Residents claimed that despite receiving eviction notices from the Railways recently, not a single BJP representative stood by them. The sudden appearance of Dilip Ghosh for election campaigning triggered an outburst of pent-up anger. The confrontation saw a clash of slogans, with ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Jai Bangla’ echoing simultaneously, further intensifying the atmosphere.

As the protest threatened to spiral out of control, a large police contingent rushed to the spot to restore order. To ensure Dilip Ghosh’s safety, the administration was forced to divert his convoy through an alternative route. While the police have secured the area, a thick blanket of tension remains over Purigate.
