Following the massive chaos during Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari’s nomination filing for the 2026 Assembly Elections, the Kolkata Police headquarters, Lalbazar, has initiated strict disciplinary action. Two high-ranking Deputy Commissioners (DCs) have been issued show-cause notices for alleged “gross negligence of duty” and failure to manage the law and order situation.

On Friday, as Suvendu Adhikari led a massive procession towards the nomination center, the security barricades were reportedly breached, leading to a near-stampede-like situation and intense scuffles. Lalbazar authorities stated that the lack of coordination and poor crowd management by the supervising officers led to this security lapse. The two DCs are now required to provide a written explanation regarding the tactical failure.
