Cache of Arms Seized from Auto in Heart of Kolkata; High-Stakes Arrest Before Polls

In a major breakthrough ahead of the upcoming elections, the Kolkata Police Detective Department intercepted an auto-rickshaw on Monday evening and recovered a significant stash of firearms. The operation took place near the Rasbehari Connector, sending shockwaves through the busy Kasba and Gariahat areas. One suspect, identified as Mohammad Ishtiaq from Gaya, Bihar, has been taken into custody.

Acting on intelligence that illegal weapons were being smuggled from Bihar and Jharkhand, the police set up a trap for a suspicious auto-rickshaw traveling from EM Bypass towards Gariahat. Upon inspection, officers discovered 6 high-grade firearms and 11 rounds of live cartridges hidden inside Ishtiaq’s belongings.

Lalbazar sleuths are now investigating the ultimate destination of these weapons and the potential involvement of an inter-state gang. With the high-voltage elections around the corner, authorities are probing whether these arms were meant for creating political unrest or executing a large-scale sabotage. Ishtiaq is currently undergoing intense interrogation to reveal further links to this network.
