Boosting the Garuds! Indian Air Force to Procure Advanced Micro UAVs for Special Forces

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to augment the operational capabilities of its elite Garud Special Forces with the induction of state-of-the-art Micro Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). On March 23, 2026, the Ministry of Defence issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking advanced micro drones capable of operating at altitudes exceeding 16,000 feet. These man-portable drones, weighing approximately 25 kg, are designed for rapid deployment in rugged terrains. Equipped with high-resolution thermal and day cameras, they can identify targets up to 1.5 km away, providing critical real-time intelligence for counter-insurgency and search-and-rescue missions.
