Big Jolt to TMC: Activist Tumpa Koyal Officially Becomes a ‘Saffron Soldier’; Which Seat Will She Get?

In a major political development ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections, Tumpa Koyal, the prominent face of the Kamduni anti-rape movement, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday. Her induction took place at the party’s state headquarters in the presence of senior leaders, marking a significant shift in the political dynamics of North 24 Parganas.

Candidate for Which Seat? While the BJP is yet to release the official list for the remaining phases, strong rumors suggest that Tumpa Koyal is being considered for the Madhyamgram constituency. Given her deep roots in the locality and her image as a brave activist who challenged the ruling dispensation for over a decade, the BJP views her as a formidable opponent against the TMC. Other potential seats include Barasat and Rajarhat-New Town.

Her Vision: Speaking to the media after her induction, Tumpa stated, “My fight has always been for justice for the daughters of Bengal. I have realized that to bring real change and ensure women’s safety, one needs political backing. I am committed to fighting against the atrocities of the current regime under the BJP banner.”
