Bharat Bandh Tomorrow! 30 Crore Workers to Strike—Will Schools, Colleges, and Banks Remain Closed?

A massive ‘Bharat Bandh’ has been called for tomorrow, February 12, by various trade unions, farmers’ organizations, and social groups to protest against government policies. With an estimated 30 crore employees expected to participate, the strike is likely to cause significant disruption to normal life across the country, particularly in banking, transport, and public offices.

Impact on Schools and Colleges: While there is no nationwide mandate for the closure of educational institutions, many private schools and colleges in several states have decided to remain shut as a precautionary measure. Some institutions have opted for online classes to ensure the safety of students. Parents are advised to stay in touch with local school administrations for the latest updates regarding potential closures or schedule changes.

Banking and Public Transport: The participation of bank unions in the strike means that manual banking operations, such as cheque clearances and cash deposits at branches, could be delayed. However, digital services including UPI, Net Banking, and ATMs will remain operational. In terms of transport, bus and taxi services may be partially affected in major cities due to union support. While railway and flight services are expected to run, getting to stations and airports might be challenging. The government has assured that essential services like hospitals and emergency medical care will remain unaffected, and security forces have been deployed to maintain law and order.
