Air Travel Turns Luxury! Middle East Conflict Doubts International Flight Prices for Indians

The escalating conflict between Iran, Israel, and the US has dealt a heavy blow to international air travel. With Middle Eastern airspaces shut down and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices hitting all-time highs, flight fares from Delhi to major global hubs like London, Dubai, and New York have reached exorbitant levels. Airlines are now forced to operate on longer, diverted routes, significantly increasing operational costs.
Fare Comparison: The Delhi-London route, which previously cost between ₹45,000 and ₹65,000 for an economy ticket, has surged to a staggering ₹1,49,479. Business class fares for the same route have climbed to ₹1,79,354. Similarly, Dubai flights that used to cost ₹12,000-₹20,000 are now priced at ₹28,000-₹55,000. New York-bound flights have seen even steeper hikes, with some one-stop tickets starting at over ₹2,05,000.
The Economic Impact: Aviation fuel prices have nearly doubled, jumping from $85-$90 to $150-$200 per barrel. This has led to a 40% hike in fares for Europe-bound routes since early March, alongside the cancellation of over 700 flights. As Brent crude oil continues its volatile climb, travelers are left bearing the brunt of geopolitical instability and surging energy costs.
