After ‘Duare Sarkar’, it’s ‘Duare Chikitsa’! Mamata Banerjee’s Massive Health Push

In a move to further decentralize administration and revolutionize the healthcare sector, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today announced the ‘Duare Chikitsa’ (Treatment at Doorstep) initiative. Following the massive success of her previous outreach programs like ‘Duare Sarkar’ and ‘Duare Ration’, the CM emphasized that quality healthcare should not be limited to hospitals but should reach the very homes of the citizens.
Administrative Expansion: New Districts on the Map Speaking at a high-level administrative meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted the necessity of smaller administrative units for better governance. “We have already carved out 7 new districts to streamline administrative work. In the coming days, we are planning to create another 7 to 10 new districts,” Banerjee stated. This move is aimed at bridging the gap between the government and the governed, ensuring that welfare schemes are monitored more effectively at the grassroots level.
The Vision Behind ‘Duare Chikitsa’ The ‘Duare Chikitsa’ scheme is designed to provide medical assistance to the elderly, the differently-abled, and those living in remote areas who find it difficult to commute to healthcare centers. Under this project, medical teams and health workers are expected to conduct routine check-ups and distribute essential medicines directly to households. By bringing the hospital to the doorstep, the state government aims to reduce the burden on public hospitals and ensure timely intervention.
Strategic Implications Political analysts view this as a strategic masterstroke by the TMC supremo. By focusing on administrative convenience through new districts and addressing the fundamental need for healthcare, Mamata Banerjee is reinforcing her image as a pro-people leader. As Bengal prepares for future electoral challenges, these announcements are set to become central pillars of the state’s development narrative.
