A Blow to Mamata’s Minority Vote Bank? Humayun Kabir Teams Up with Owaisi for WB 2026!

The political landscape of West Bengal has taken a dramatic turn as the 2026 Assembly Elections approach. Rebel leader and former TMC strongman Humayun Kabir, who recently launched his own ‘Janata Unnayan Party,’ is all set to join forces with Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM. This strategic move is seen as a direct attempt to fracture Mamata Banerjee’s stronghold over the Muslim vote bank in Bengal. Ahead of releasing his party’s manifesto on Wednesday, Kabir announced a high-octane campaign starting April 1.
In a bold move to woo female voters, Humayun Kabir has promised to increase the monthly allowance of the popular ‘Lakshmir Bhandar’ scheme to a whopping ₹3,500 if voted to power. By tripling the current benefit, Kabir intends to outmatch the ruling party’s flagship program, which has been a cornerstone of Mamata’s electoral success. Political experts suggest that this “mega-promise” combined with a potential alliance with Owaisi could spell trouble for the TMC in at least 50 key constituencies across Murshidabad, Malda, and North Dinajpur.
Kabir’s rebellion stems from his long-standing grievance that the minority community has been reduced to a mere “vote bank” by the Trinamool Congress. With Owaisi’s entry and Kabir’s grassroots influence, the 2026 elections are no longer a two-way fight between the TMC and BJP. As Humayun hits the streets on April 1, the big question remains: Can he successfully mobilize the minority and rural voters against the “Didi” magic, or will this alliance inadvertently favor the opposition by splitting the anti-BJP votes? The countdown to a fierce political showdown has begun.
