In a shocking incident in Lucknow’s Ibrahimganj village, police have arrested a woman named Shalini for allegedly murdering her mother-in-law, Shanti Devi. The motive behind the crime was Shanti Devi discovering Shalini’s extramarital affair with her nephew, Karan, who recently returned from Iraq. To keep their relationship a secret, the duo allegedly plotted the murder.

Planned execution and prior attempt
The investigation revealed that this was a cold-blooded and planned crime. On April 5, Shalini mixed pesticides into Shanti Devi’s bread. Notably, this was not the first attempt; ten days prior, Shalini had tried to poison her mother-in-law’s tea but failed. Although the family initially treated it as a natural death, suspicious remains of the poisoned food eventually led to a confession.

Police action and current status
Following intense questioning by family members and police, Shalini confessed to the crime. Authorities have exhumed the body from the grave for an autopsy to gather forensic evidence. While Shalini is currently in police custody, her accomplice and lover, Karan, remains at large, and police operations are underway to apprehend him.
