Medvedev Fined $7,000 for On-Court Meltdown! Racket Smashed After ‘Double Bagel’ Defeat

Former world number one Daniil Medvedev has once again made headlines for all the wrong reasons. The Russian star has been slapped with a $7,000 fine (approx. ₹6.5 lakh) for unsportsmanlike conduct during the Monte Carlo Masters.
The incident occurred during the Round of 32 clash against Italy’s Matteo Berrettini. In a shocking performance, Medvedev was demolished 0-6, 0-6 in just 49 minutes. Berrettini became only the fifth player in ATP history to secure a ‘double-bagel’ victory against a top-10 opponent. Frustrated by his performance, the world number ten unleashed his fury on his racket, slamming it against the court seven times until it was completely destroyed. Following the chair umpire’s report, the ATP Tour penalized him for violating the code of conduct.
While Medvedev earned $50,000 for reaching the second round, a significant portion was slashed due to this fine. This is not his first offense; he previously faced fines of $76,000 and $42,500 for similar outbursts. Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner claimed the Monte Carlo Masters title by defeating Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets, reclaiming his world number one spot.
