Bengal Sizzles! Severe Heatwave Alert for South Bengal Districts as Mercury Soars

The Alipore Meteorological Department has issued a grim forecast as South Bengal braces for an intense heat spell at the end of Chaitra. Due to dry westerly and north-westerly winds, several districts will witness a surge in discomfort levels starting today. The maximum temperature is expected to rise by another 2-3°C over the next three days.
Heatwave & Humidity Alert: Districts like Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram, West Midnapore, and West Burdwan are under high alert for extreme heat and humidity from April 14 to 19. In Kolkata, while the maximum temperature stands around 35.2°C, high humidity levels and the possibility of ‘Loo’ winds after noon will make outdoor conditions difficult.
Rain Forecast: Amidst the scorching heat, light thunderstorms are predicted for Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, and Birbhum on April 15 and 16, with wind speeds reaching up to 50 kmph. Meanwhile, North Bengal districts, including Darjeeling and Kalimpong, will continue to receive light to moderate rainfall, providing much-needed respite from the summer heat.
