Skip Poll Duty and Lose Your Job! Birbhum DM Issues Stern Warning to Election Staff

In a move to ensure zero lapses during the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections, Birbhum District Magistrate Dhaval Jain has issued a grim warning to polling personnel. During a press conference in Bolpur, he stated that any staff failing to report for duty will face severe consequences under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which could even lead to termination of service. With a tighter manpower pool, the Commission is in no mood for excuses.

Flanked by SP Suraj Pratap Yadav and CRPF officials, the DM revealed that out of 1,500 complaints received so far, all have been resolved swiftly. On the day of polling—scheduled for April 23 in Birbhum—the administration aims to act on any complaint within just 30 minutes. High-risk zones from previous 2021 and 2024 elections have been identified for heavy central force deployment and constant webcasting surveillance. “The goal is a free, fair, and peaceful election,” the SP added, emphasizing that the administration is ready to tackle any booth jamming or intimidation.
