AI Strikes Again! Dell Technologies Fires Thousands of Employees in Massive Layoff Spree

The ongoing Artificial Intelligence (AI) revolution and global economic shifts have claimed thousands of more jobs in the tech sector. Dell Technologies has recently revealed in its annual filing that it has laid off approximately 10% of its workforce over the past year. The tech giant cited cost-cutting measures and the need to boost revenue as the primary reasons behind this drastic move.
According to the data, as of January 31, 2024, Dell’s total headcount stood at around 97,000, a significant drop from the 108,000 employees it had just a year prior. This indicates that nearly 11,000 individuals lost their livelihoods within a single year. The company clarified that these layoffs are part of a multi-year restructuring process intended to streamline operations.
Adding insult to injury, Dell has also slashed its severance pay allocations for departing employees. The budget for severance packages, which previously stood at $693 million, has been reduced to $569 million for the fiscal year 2026. As tech companies increasingly pivot toward AI-driven efficiency, the trend of recurring layoffs continues to create uncertainty for IT professionals worldwide.
