16,000 Names Deleted from Voters’ List! Will it Impact TMC’s Winning Streak in Minakhan?

A day after filing her nomination for the Bhawanipur constituency, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee is back on the field with a marathon campaign schedule. On Thursday, she is set to address five crucial public meetings across North 24 Parganas, starting from Minakhan and moving through Noapara, Panihati, Baranagar, and Rajarhat-Gopalpur.

While addressing a massive gathering at Haroa Circus Maidan in support of candidates Usharani Mondal and Mufti Abdul Matin, the Chief Minister faced a sea of supporters who defied heavy rain and muddy conditions to hear her. However, the political spotlight is on the recent ‘SIR’ (voter list revision) process. Reportedly, 16,491 names have been removed from the voter list in Minakhan alone. Since Usharani Mondal won by 55,000 votes last time, the party is wary that these deletions could shrink their victory margin.

Similar concerns haunt the Haroa seat, where Mufti Abdul Matin is contesting to fill the void left by the late Sheikh Haji Nurul Islam. Despite these administrative challenges, the enthusiasm at the ground suggests a fierce battle ahead. With tight security in place, Mamata’s campaign blitz is aimed at neutralizing any electoral setbacks caused by the revised voter lists.
