End of the ‘Platform Sprint’! Eastern Railway’s Tech Overhaul Changes Passenger Experience

For Shaswati Basu, the nightmare of running 200 meters with heavy luggage at Dankuni station is finally over. What she once called the “Platform Sprint” due to a lack of coach indicators has been replaced by calm, digital precision. “It feels like the station is talking to me now. No more guessing, no more running,” she says.

This transformation is part of Eastern Railway’s massive technological face-lift. Over the past year, 27 stations, including Arambagh, Samudragarh, and Kalyani Ghoshpara, have been equipped with modern Train Indication Boards (TIB). High-visibility Coach Indication Boards (CIB) at stations like Dhulian Ganga ensure passengers know exactly where to stand.

The upgrade goes beyond just signs. High-definition video walls at Rampurhat and New Farakka, along with 31 LED TVs in executive lounges at Malda Town and Jamalpur, provide real-time updates and entertainment. To eliminate confusion, 17 stations now feature crystal-clear auto-announcement systems. Furthermore, 23 stations have been fitted with GPS-synchronized clocks, while iconic Tower Clocks have been installed at Siuri and Panagarh. General Manager Milind Deouskar emphasized that the goal is to provide a world-class, tech-driven environment even at smaller stations, ensuring a seamless journey for every commuter.
