“Get Lost!”—TMC MPs Allege Humiliation by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar

A major political storm has erupted in the national capital following a high-voltage confrontation between Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. A four-member delegation, including Derek O’Brien and Sagarika Ghose, had moved the Election Commission to protest the deletion of 91 lakh names from West Bengal’s electoral rolls under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
However, the meeting ended in a bitter fallout. Emerging from the office, Derek O’Brien alleged that the CEC refused to hear their grievances and ordered them to “Get Lost” within just seven minutes. “We are the second-largest opposition party in Parliament. To be treated this way is an insult to the people of Bengal whose voting rights are being snatched away,” O’Brien stated, visibly enraged. Sagarika Ghose echoed his sentiments, calling the dismissal a dark day for democracy.
Countering these claims, EC sources alleged that the delegation’s behavior was “unruly.” The Commission claimed that the MPs resorted to shouting and used “indecent language,” forcing the Commissioner to ask them to maintain decorum. While the TMC maintains that the massive deletion of voters is a conspiracy to suppress the mandate, the Commission stands by its revision process. This unprecedented clash has added a fresh layer of tension to the upcoming electoral battle in Bengal.
