High-Tech Surveillance to Curb Violence! 3,000 Cameras & 200 Micro Observers Deployed in Bengal

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has unleashed a massive high-tech surveillance operation to ensure peaceful polling in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. In a bid to curb electoral violence, the commission has deployed 200 micro observers and installed nearly 3,000 cameras across the state to maintain 24/7 vigilance.

A state-of-the-art control room has been established where micro observers will monitor live feeds on 90 massive screens. Apart from static cameras, special cameras mounted on patrol vehicles will track movements in sensitive areas. The ECI is also employing advanced software to detect suspicious gatherings or abnormal activities in real-time. For high-risk booths, a three-camera setup (two inside and one outside) has been mandated to ensure total transparency.

In a significant administrative move, IAS officer Vibhu Goel has been appointed as the Additional Chief Electoral Officer. He will act as the key coordinator between the ECI, appellate tribunals under SIR 2026, and the High Court. With intensified naka-checking and digital monitoring, the commission is leaving no stone unturned to conduct a free and fair election in the state.
