Respite from the Heat! Thunderstorms and Rain Likely in South Bengal from Sunday Evening

After a scorching Saturday where temperatures in Kolkata hit a season-high of 36.1°C, relief is finally on the horizon. The Alipore Meteorological Department has predicted a significant change in weather starting Sunday evening. Due to strong moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal, several districts of South Bengal are expected to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds.
According to the latest bulletin, light to moderate rain is very likely today in districts like Purulia, Bankura, Burdwan, Hooghly, and West Midnapore. For Kolkata, the sky will remain partly cloudy today, with isolated thunderstorms expected by late evening. The intensity of the rain is set to increase from Monday, with a warning of winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph between April 7 and April 9. This spell of rain is expected to lower the maximum temperature by 2-3 degrees, providing much-needed comfort to residents. North Bengal is also likely to experience light rainfall in the hilly regions. Citizens are advised to stay indoors during lightning strikes as the stormy weather is predicted to last until April 10.
