Adhir Chowdhury Face-Off: Congress & TMC Clashes During Campaigning in Baharampur

The political atmosphere in Baharampur turned volatile on Saturday morning as Congress veteran Adhir Chowdhury faced intense protests from TMC supporters during his campaign trail. The incident occurred in Ward 21 of Baharampur Municipality, leading to a physical scuffle between the two rival parties.

The Confrontation: Tensions flared in the BT Battala area when Chowdhury’s campaign rally encountered a TMC rally led by Bhishmadev Karmakar in a narrow lane. Within minutes, verbal spats escalated into pushing and shoving. There were also allegations of TMC supporters pushing central paramilitary jawans who were guarding the Congress candidate. It took significant effort from the police and central forces to prevent a full-scale riot.

The Battle for Baharampur: Unfazed by the incident, Adhir Chowdhury asserted that no one could stop his right to campaign, while TMC blamed the Congress leader for causing congestion with his security detail. This year, Baharampur is a key constituency as Chowdhury returns to the Assembly fray after three decades, facing a stiff challenge from TMC’s Narugopal Mukherjee and BJP’s sitting MLA Subrata Moitra.
