Earth Like Never Before! NASA’s Artemis II Shares Breathtaking Photos from Deep Space

NASA’s Artemis II mission has achieved a significant milestone just a day after its successful launch. On Friday, NASA released two mesmerizing images of Earth captured from the Orion spacecraft as it journeys toward deep space. This marks the first time in nearly half a century that Earth has been photographed from such proximity to the Moon.

A View from Above: The images, captured by Flight Commander Reid Wiseman through Orion’s window, offer a rare perspective. While the first shot shows a partial view of the “Blue Marble,” the second reveals the entire planet draped in white clouds over vast oceans. Lakiesha Hawkins, an Exploration Systems Leader at NASA, remarked poignantly, “Everyone in the world, except for those four astronauts, is present in that picture.”

Mission Progress: By Friday afternoon, the crew had already traveled 110,000 miles. They are expected to reach their lunar destination by Monday. The Artemis II mission serves as a critical test flight where the spacecraft will orbit the Moon before charting a course back home. As NASA highlighted in a recent social media clip, while the crew explores the lunar frontier, their ultimate goal remains finding the surest path back to Earth.
