ED’s ‘Election Strike’ in Bengal! Two TMC Heavyweights Summoned in Municipality Recruitment Scam

In a major pre-poll development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified its probe into the West Bengal Municipality Recruitment Scam. The central agency has issued fresh summons to two heavyweight Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders, both of whom are key candidates in the upcoming 2026 Assembly Elections. This move has triggered a fresh war of words between the ruling TMC and the opposition BJP.
The TMC has slammed the move, calling it “purely politically motivated.” The party leadership alleges that the BJP is using central agencies like the ED to harass and distract their candidates during the crucial campaigning phase. Earlier, several ministers and MLAs had been linked to this cash-for-jobs scam, but the timing of these summons—just as the state prepares to vote—has raised eyebrows. According to ED sources, the summons were issued based on “incriminating evidence” related to financial irregularities found during previous raids. As the legal battle intensifies, all eyes are on the CGO Complex to see whether these leaders appear for questioning or seek legal protection.
