Wartime Shakeup at Pentagon! Defense Secretary Hegseth Ousts Army Chief Gen. Randy George

In a dramatic wartime move, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has asked General Randy George, the Army’s Chief of Staff, to step down and take immediate retirement. The decision, announced on Friday, comes as a major shock to the military establishment, especially since the U.S. is currently engaged in active combat operations against Iran. General George, who took office in 2023 under the Biden administration, was originally slated to serve until late 2027.

Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell confirmed that General Christopher LaNeve, the current Vice Chief, will take over as acting Army Chief of Staff. The purge also extended to other high-ranking officers, including Gen. David Hodne, head of Training and Transformation Command, and Maj. Gen. William Green Jr., the Army’s Chief of Chaplains. Sources suggest that Hegseth is clearing out leadership linked to the previous administration to ensure “ideological alignment” with President Trump’s military vision.

This ouster is part of a larger restructuring led by Hegseth, who has already replaced the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. C.Q. Brown, and Navy Chief Adm. Lisa Franchetti since taking office. While the Pentagon officially thanked George for his service, the sudden leadership vacuum during an active conflict has raised serious questions about operational stability and the increasing political influence over the U.S. armed forces.
